Dance majors are exposed to elements of dance history and are expected to participate in a final production based on instructor guided artistic research and student produced choreographic works. Dancers participate in daily technique classes as well as improvisation and composition courses.
Classes can range from classical styles of Luigi, Giordano, and Hatchett to more contemporary lyrical, Fosse, west coast and more. Classes will take on a variety of forms.
Taught from a basis of various traditional modern dance techniques. Examples from which instructors teach include Horton, Duncan, Hawkins, Graham, Limon and contemporary techniques.
Develop, refine and expand on existing technical abilities. Daily ballet technique classes are classical in nature, and female students are expected to participate both on pointe and in soft ballet shoes.
